Coming to America, Inshallah, Ctd.
I can’t really take credit for any of this, but I think you should know that two of the women I’ve worked with have made it to America for study programs. First, there was Aytəkin who was applying for the Edmund T. Muskie program, a program for Master’s degree candidates. We worked through her GRE tests, interviews, and essays. And she made it! I don’t know about the veracity of this claim, but I hear she was considered the number one candidate for the program. She received the sponsorship to go to Middle Tennessee State for year-long program. I believe she’s leaving soon, maybe in mid-July. She’ll be studying Mass Communications.
In addition to that, her sister is now in beautiful Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Shams is the one I was working with for a 6-week summer program called Global Village. I described the process here. In short, we were able to raise the money (thanks!) and she’s been in America for more than 10 days now. Color me jealous. Before she left, we brainstormed a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis for businesses in Azerbaijan. She writes:
Everyday new knowledge, new people, experiencing dorm life. Totally different. there are a lot of stairs in the university. Sometimes I am like dying when I climb them :))) But getting used to it 🙂 They say the one who has discovered the elevator has graduated from Lehigh University.
She also says the SWOT presentation went well. Maybe I’ll elaborate on that a bit for the blog soon.
