Azerbaijan Plays Football
Soccer or football. You choose what to call it. The important thing to note is that Azerbaijan has some skills to work on in this area. I’ve been out of the internet world for a few days, as the new apartment doesn’t currently have the infrastructure for an internet set up. I’m working on that. As that is the case, Carolyn pointed out the Azerbaijan-Germany match that took place a few days ago. Needless to say, one of the world’s soccer powerhouses did a number on one of the world’s soccer poorhouses. Azerbaijan fell 6-1. From Canada’s AP:
Miroslav Klose scored twice Tuesday as Germany routed Azerbaijan 6-1 for its second victory in qualifying for the 2012 European Championship.
Defender Heiko Westermann scored in the 28th, Lukas Podolski doubled the lead in the 45th and Klose added the third in first-half injury time.
An own-goal by Rashed Sadygov made it 4-0 in the 53rd before Azerbaijan found the right net in the 57th through a huge mistake by Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who fumbled a corner cross from Vagif Javadov….
…Azerbaijan’s German coach, Berti Vogts, said his team was “too passive.”
“Germany is in another league,” Vogts said.
So there it is. Another thing to note is that our famous Xəzər Lənkəran team is represented on the national club in the form of the goalkeeper, Kamran Ağayev. Hopefully, Kamran can improve for next time.
