Just another blog about Azerbaijan.

Another Set of Elections, Ctd.

Apparently, the Azerbaijani government disagrees with the US State Department’s assessment of their most recent parliamentary elections.  Which I find interesting.  My sources tell me that the State Department reaction usually mirrors the OSCE’s impressions.  And the impressions this time around, unfortunately, were not positive.  From the Today.Az report and the previous OSCE report, it looks like the State Department had similar things to say about the elections, not biased, contradictory views.

For another view, however, talk to the Russians.  Their observers apparently found very few problems, assessing the elections here on par with international standards.  Let’s remember who this is: Russia.  Not exactly a paramount of electoral beauty, either.  Corrupt practices are par for the course.  I’d be interested in seeing what ‘international standard’ they’re using.
