It’s That Time of Year Again
Time to get your Eurovision engines started. Just over a week ago, Azerbaijan’s Eurovision selection committee announced the 12 performers who will be competing a penultimate showdown before a final selection bash takes place to declare Azerbaijan’s Eurovision representative:
Chief of the Public Television’s musical department Natig Abdullayev told APA that 10 candidates will run for selection to the final. The semifinal will be held from January 10 to 14 and five finalists will be selected on the basis of 50% votes of audience and 50% – jury. ITV (Public Television) will broadcast live program.
Abdullayev said the national selection was organized according to the rules of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The national final will be held in a large concert program early February.
So now we’re down to ten. I wanted to comment on who the last two were to be eliminated, but my sources vary wildly. The APA reports one set of 12 possible contestants that is very different from the current Eurovision Azerbaijan website listing 10. How’d they do that?
One thing is for certain: Azerbaijan better get on this fast. Albania has already chosen their star-to-be and Azerbaijan certainly doesn’t want to be left behind. Also, don’t forget to go watch copious amounts of Azerbaijani videos of Eurovision competitors strutting their stuff and give them a vote at the Eurovision Azerbaijan website.
